Entertainment is an experience, which evolves over time to suit many purposes: from an individual selecting a personal piece of pre-recorded entertainment for private enjoyment; to any scale or style of rite, party, religious festival, or even satire, intended for the public at large. The experience of being entertained has become strongly associated with amusement, and one common understanding of the idea is fun and laughter, although many entertainments have a serious purpose as well, such as gaining insight or intellectual growth.
