What Is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is an activity that diverts attention from everyday worries, and may be associated with enjoyment, fun and laughter. It can be passive, such as watching a film or TV show; active, like playing sport as a hobby; or created, such as when someone spontaneously invents a game. Entertainment has the power to shape and change people’s lives, but can also have negative effects if not properly regulated. It can span multiple media, with elements and structures that are reused and adapted to different contexts, such as songs or dances that cross from one medium to another. It can range from a personal choice of private entertainment for two to a banquet or performance intended for thousands.
